COP28 STUDENT COMPETITION

DEADLINE:
JULY 28TH, 2023

A national competition is being undertaken, with the support of Corporate Bahamas, to provide financial support for young Bahamians to attend COP28.

Stage 1: Essay Component

Focus: “After 50 years of Independence, what are some climate solutions The Bahamas can explore to build resilience over the next 50 years?”

  • High School Students: 850 – 1000 words
  • College/University Students: 1200- 1500 words
  • Two (2) References

Stage 2: Video Component

Contestants that have successfully made it past stage 1 will be split into 2 groups, the final contenders, and the outgoing finalists.

    1. The outgoing finalists will be given the opportunity to produce candid videos that will capture their message, hopes and goals for youth in the climate change space nationally, regionally, and internationally and these will be used in the Youth Empowerment space nationally and internationally, where appropriate.
    2. The final contenders are those who will continue in the competitive process  with the interview and bid to represent the country at COP28.

Stage 3: Interview Component

Students that successfully make it past stage 2 will undergo a rigorous interview process to vet their interest/experience, level of understanding of the climate change space and the challenges.

FINAL RESULTS

The aspects of all 3 stages will be factored into the decision-making process and the four top scoring contestants (2 high school/ 2 college/university students) will be announced as the 4 Youth Delegates to attend COP28.

Applicants must:

  1. Be a Bahamian  studying either in The Bahamas or the region.
  2. Have a valid up-to-date Bahamian Passport
  3. Must be between 15 -25 years of age as of 1st November 2023

IMPORTANT DATES:

  • Competition submission deadline:
    July 28th, 2023
  • Applicants shortlisted for advancement to interview process:
    August 15th, 2023.
  • Winners announced:
    August 31st, 20223
